SUMMARY:Rillito Ramble with Scott Crabtree
DESCRIPTION:The Rillito River Loop provides access to a mixture of desert scrub, a (generally) dry wash, and urban parks. This mixture can make for an interesting collection of wintering birds, including hawks, sparrows, and finches. Many locally breeding species are already starting air up, so we’ll watch for early breeding behavior. The walk will start at the Loop NW parking lot on Swan Rd, adjacent to the north side of the Rillito (not the SE lot). We’ll proceed west to at least Dodge Blvd. We may go further if desired, and then return on the south side of the wash, taking in the Columbus Weed Patch on our way back. This trip will be a minimum of four miles.\nDue to narrow paths and trails, the number of participants is limited to six. As always, bring you optics of choice, water, snacks, and be prepared for changing temperatures! Public restrooms and water are available at the start location, Brandi Fenton Park, and Paradise Falls Parking area.\nTrip Description: Moderate difficulty. Walking conditions will be along the paved Loop, with some off-path walking on gravel trails. Awareness of bicyclists, runners, and dog-walkers will be necessary. This trip will be a minimum of four miles.\nLeader: Scott Crabtree \nHeader Image: White-crowned Sparrow by Tom Brown\n
