DESCRIPTION:Registration fee: $125/member,  $175/non-member\nSparrow Identification Workshop\nOften skulky and elusive, these “little brown jobs” are often overlooked in the field. As part of this workshop, you will learn how to find and observe sparrows in their preferred habitat. Useful foraging behaviors and flight characteristics are presented by general and vocalizations for breeding species are reviewed. The significance of bill shape and size, wing length and tail length are all discussed in relation to identification. This workshop covers 34 species of sparrows, towhees, and longspurs that may be found in the Southwest.\nThis workshop series consists of two parts- an in-classroom workshop and an in-field workshop. Participants are expected to attend both portions for a holistic experience.\nPart I: In-Clasroom ID Workshop, Thursday, February 20, 5:30-8:30 PM, at the Tucson Bird Alliance Nature Shop (300 E University Blvd)\nPart II: In-Field ID Workshop & Birding Trip, Saturday, February 22, all day (location & schedule TBD)\nThis workshop is part of the It’s All in the Family: Advanced Bird ID Series: When Roger Tory Peterson starting drawing his field guide to birds, he knew that recognizing the size and shape of the bird was an important step in bird identification, so he put “profile” images of bird family representatives on the insides of the front and back covers.  This Advanced Bird ID Series follows this same approach and will introduce you to techniques that will enhance your bird identification skills.\nHeader Image: Black-throated Sparrow by Martin Molina\n
