SUMMARY:Birding for Beginners at Rio Vista Natural Resource Park with Gary Bachman
DESCRIPTION:January 24th, 8:00 AM\nTrip difficulty: Easy. We will start in the parking lot and move slowly on well-graded level paths through the Park. Maximum distance is about 1.5 miles. Paths could be slippery as a result of seasonal rain.\nThis trip is for the absolute beginner, or a new visitor to Tucson, and new birders. Rio Vista Park consists mainly of open scrub and open grassy areas. Birds are generally easily viewed, while there is not an overwhelming number of species, so our work is relaxed.\nWe will start in the parking lot, and run through the basics of birding: why we bird, ethics of birding, tools, and resources. Occasionally we will break to identify a bird or birds that come into view. This will provide opportunities to discuss the process of identifying, or distinguishing between species. We move slowly through the park, our intention is not to compile a list, or get deep into technical information. but find our process, and view birds that are typically found in the open scrub of Rio Vista Park. Our goal is to insure that birding is an enjoyable and educational activity that we will continue as a lifelong activity.\nLeaders: Gary Bachman\n**Registration for Tucson Bird Alliance Members is free. Non-members can join this field trip for a non-refundable fee of $5.** \nHeader Image: Verdin by Scott Olmstead\n
