SUMMARY:Ramsey Canyon & Hummingbirds with Luke Safford
DESCRIPTION:Friday, June 26: Ramsey Canyon, 5:30am – 2:00pm\n$50/member, $100/non-member\n\nTrip Difficulty: Moderate-Difficult. Around one mile walking on mostly hard-packed trail with sometimes steep inclines. Some benches available in places. Will be hot and please bring plenty of water, 2 liters is good.\nOne of the most beautiful areas in all of Southeast Arizona, Ramsey Canyon is full of giant Sycamores and amazing biodiversity. Hummingbird feeders at the Nature Conservancy could attract Rivoli’s, Black-chinned, Broad-billed, and possibly Violet-crowned or Blue-throated. We’ll walk the preserve trails and look for birds of the Madrean evergreen forest including Coppery-tailed Trogon, Sulphur-bellied Flycatcher, Painted Redstart, and Black-headed Grosbeak. We’ll meet in the Tucson area for carpooling at 5:30am to head to Ramsey Canyon where we’ll start with birding at Brown Canyon Ranch before heading up to the preserve when it opens at 8am. We’ll enjoy lunch at Ramsey Canyon before heading back to town. If there are reports of White-eared Hummingbird at Beatty’s Guest Ranch we may head there afterwards if we have time.
