Birdathon Fundraiser Field Trip: Paton Center Restorative Birding with Karen Howe

Birdathon Fundraiser Field Trip: Paton Center Restorative Birding, Apr. 16, 7:30am – 11am

Team: The Broad Bill$

$75 (minimum) donation

Join us for a special field trip to support the Birdathon fundraiser! This outing is perfect for those who want to contribute to Birdathon but don’t have a team of their own. Enjoy a fun and educational birding experience, all while supporting bird conservation.

All registration fees will go directly to the Birdathon fundraiser, helping protect habitats and support critical bird conservation efforts. You can also share your fundraising efforts with others by sending along a link to your team page here! Let’s come together to celebrate birds and make a difference!

Whether you’re a seasoned birder or a curious beginner, your participation will leave a lasting impact.

Trip difficulty: Easy. Approximately 1 mile hiking on packed dirt that may be wet in spots. Wear sturdy shoes, dress in layers, and bring binoculars. Shade and benches are available.

The Paton Center property and trails lie within a rich riparian area alongside a free-flowing section of the Santa Cruz River. Over the past 25 years, the area near the house has been transformed from a grassy yard into diverse native plantings. We’ll begin our morning birding with staff member Alexis Stark. Highlights may include Gray Hawks, Inca Doves, Hooded Orioles, and Violet-crowned Hummingbirds. Afterward, we’ll tour the habitat restoration behind the house, which includes invasive grass and tree removal, cottonwood planting, and new trails along the stream. We will also get a behind-the-scenes look at the renovations underway at the house, parking area, and restrooms. To conclude the morning, we will enjoy refreshments and socialize on the property. Limited to 12 participants.
