Birds, Bikes & Brunch with Gary Bachman
Birds, Bikes & Brunch
Thursday, June 5th, 6:00 AM
Trip difficulty: Moderate difficulty – for bicyclists accustomed to riding on a paved trail, in formation.
The Chuck Huckelberry Loop follows the major drainages while encircling Tucson, passing by some of the favorite TBA Field Trip Locations. This is a moving trip following the Santa Cruz River north from Sweetwater, ending a little north of Ina Road. Outfalls from sewer treatment plants provide lush and perhaps under explored birding territory. There is also interesting open habitat which may offer some surprises. We will ride as far as Crossroads Park in Marana. Round trip mileage is approx. 12.5 miles,, but will depend on birding in along the route. On return to Sweetwater we can have a brunch together and complete our bird list.
Participants must have a bicycle in good condition and a helmet. Bring durable containers for water, binoculars, and backpack or storage for gear. Most of the ride is on level paths, but there are a couple of steep slopes en route. A detailed description of the route will be sent before the trip.
