Catalinas – Bottom to Top with Richard Carlson

Friday, April 17th, 6:00 AM

Trip difficulty: Easy to Moderate. Mostly short walks, near the vehicles.

Join us for a scenic birding adventure up Mount Lemmon, where we’ll explore a remarkable range of habitats as we climb from the Sonoran Desert into cool pine forests. With multiple stops along the way, we’ll look for a diverse mix of species that change with elevation—from desert favorites at the base to montane specialists higher up. This “Sky Island” experience offers not only excellent birding opportunities but also butterflies, wildflowers, stunning views, and a chance to witness the unique ecological transitions that make southern Arizona so special.

We’ll wrap up the morning in Summerhaven, where participants can relax and enjoy lunch together. It’s a perfect way to unwind, share sightings from the day, and soak in the fresh mountain air before heading back down the mountain.

Leader: Richard Carlson
