Harshaw Creek and Paton Center with Luke Safford

Friday, September 11th: Harshaw Creek and Paton Center, 6:00am – 12pm
$50/member, $100/non-member

Trip difficulty: Moderate. About one or two mile walking segments along Harshaw Creek Road mostly on gravel road, and possibly some walking off-road on somewhat uneven ground. Feeder watching and wandering around the Paton Center is easy and accessible with bathroom on-site.

Harshaw Creek Road is quickly becoming one of my favorite bird walks and should provide an opportunity to take in fall migration. Species to be looking for here include Vaux’s Swift, Gray Hawk, Northern Beardless-Tyrannulet, Warbling Vireo, Bushtit, MacGillivray’s Warbler, Varied Bunting, and more. After a couple hours birding this road we’ll switch gears and visit the famous Paton Center for Hummingbirds where we’ll look for hummingbirds and more migrating birds. We’ll wrap up our birding at the Paton Center about 12pm and head north back to Tucson. For those carpooling we will meet in the Tucson area for carpooling at 5am to head to Patagonia where we’ll start with birding Harshaw Creek Road. We can also meet people in Patagonia.
