The Marana Loop with Luke Safford
Friday, January 23: Time: 7:30am – 11:30am
$35/member, $50/non-member
Trip Difficulty: Moderate. Mostly walking and birding along roads, but also some shorter walks off trails on possibly uneven terrain.
We’ll meet in Marana at 7:30am and then head out to a number of birding hotspots in the area including the Wastewater Reclamation Facility (Stingray Drive), Hardin Road, Arizona Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, and a few other locations to be determined by the leader. The agricultural landscape can be great in the winter for Horned Lark, Loggerhead Shrike, Northern Harrier, and Yellow-headed Blackbirds. We’ll definitely look for Burrowing Owls as well, this being the best spot for them in Southeast Arizona. Another raptor that we have a strong possibility of seeing is Ferruginous Hawk. We’ll wrap up about 11:30am. Limited to 10 participants.
Leader: Luke Safford (lsafford@tucsonbirds.org)
