Turkey Run on Mt. Lemmon with Gary Bachman

Mt. Lemmon: Turkey Run and Summerhaven

Trip difficulty: Moderate difficulty. We will start on a paved road, which eventually turns into a trail ending at Ski Valley.. The walk is at approx. 7500 ft elevation, at mostly at a slight grade uphill. The total trip is about 2.5 miles, or half that if we shuttle back from Ski Valley.

This one-mile walk is pretty birdy, passing through good habitat. the road services summer homes and water district tanks following a stream and passing a spring. It is an easy and popular walk. We will certainly hear warbling vireos, western flycatchers, red-faced warblers, nuthatches, and other birds found in the dense conifer, maple forest.

Trip leader will be staying on Mt Lemmon. Carpooling can be arranged by participants if noted when signing up. This is also a popular weekend mountain bike route. Hopefully it will not be as busy on a weekday. We can also arrange to shuttle back to Summerhaven from ski Valley

Meeting spot: In front of visitor’s center, Summerhaven
