Patagonia Lake State Park with Luke Safford
Patagonia Lake State Park with Luke Safford
Friday, November 14: 8am – 12:30pm
$35/member, $50/non-member
Trip Difficulty: Medium to Hard. The “Birding Trail” at the beginning will be about 2 miles of walking on a nice trail with one steep incline with stairs. The hard part would be the optional walking to the dam and spillway area at the end of the trip.
Patagonia Lake is one of the best places in all of Arizona to go birding and offers a good selection of waterfowl, raptors, and songbirds. We’ll start on the “Birding Trail” on the east end of the lake and walk along the Sonoita Creek for around a mile. After walking the trail for a while we will check out some other areas around the campground and lake, and end with a steep walk down to the dam/spillway area to look for loons, gulls, and mergansers. Be sure to bring some food, water, and snacks if you’d like since we’ll be there for about 4 ½ hours. Limited to 10 participants.
