Rio Vista Natural Resource Park with Gary Bachman & Scott Olmstead

Saturday, February 21st, 8:00 AM

Trip difficulty: We will meet in the developed area near the parking lot. An improved network of trails provides access through the park. The trails are evenly graded and wide. They may be slippery if it has rained recently. The total walk will be about 1.5 miles at a leisurely pace.

Rio Vista Natural Resources Park is one of two parks of this type in the City of Tucson. While about 15% of the area has been developed with lawns and tables, the rest is left as a natural area. The open scrub habitat is good for viewing birds. In the past, the park has been reliable for Vermillion Flycatchers and sparrows. We are likely to see Phainopeplas, yellow-rumped warblers, woodpeckers, hawks, and hopefully Rufous-winged Sparrows and gnatcatchers.
