Himmel Park with Catherine Rosenberg
Himmel Park – Tuesday, July 1st – 7am
Dear Birders, I look forward to another birding field trip at Himmel Park, 1000 N. Tucson Blvd. on Tuesday, July 1st at 7:00 am.
Himmel Park is located on the east side of Tucson Boulevard, half a block south of Speedway Boulevard. We will meet in front of the wildlife mural. You can’t miss it!
There are over one hundred unshaded parking spots – so plenty of parking at 7:00 am. Entry to the park is free. Himmel is open 6:00 am to 10:30 pm and there are bathrooms on site. The trip difficulty is easy. We walk mostly on grass. Himmel is about 25 acres, with lots of amenities.
We will bird from 7:00 am to 8:30 or 9:00 am, depending on how the birds cooperate. At 9:00 am please join me for a cool beverage and a homemade baked good. Feel free to bring something to add to our morning picnic if you like. We will look for: the two Great Horned Owls that have again been seen frequenting the park, Harris, Red-tailed and Cooper’s Hawks, Vermillion Flycatchers (a plethora), Gila and Ladder- backed Woodpeckers, Brown-crested Flycatchers, Barn Swallows, Hooded Orioles, Broadbilled, Anna’s and Black-chinned Hummingbirds, Lucy’s Warblers, Cassin’s and Western Kingbirds, Bell’s Vireo and other full-time resident species. Come join me. Himmel is an easy place to bird, and we always have a lot of fun!
