Desert Purple Martin Evening Roost Viewing with Jennie MacFarland
Desert Purple Martin Evening Roost Viewing
The Desert Purple Martins are getting ready to migrate south, and many of them gather in Sahuarita nightly to communally roost in the pecan groves. Tucson Bird Alliance has found a location that a large number have been using lately, south of Sahuarita Road, and you can join us to watch the evening spectacle of the birds feeding over the pecans and coalescing into a tight group before dropping into the trees to spend the night.

We will be offering this field trip four evenings in a row! Please click on the appropriate link for the date you wish to join…
Wednesday, August 27th – Join Waitlist
Logistics: We will be meeting at 6:30 pm at the Fry’s Grocery Store parking area in Sahuarita (northeast part of the parking area – map here) for optional carpooling to the site. Just a few minutes away, we will park on a very wide shoulder off of Nogales Highway to watch for the gathering of Desert Purple Martins. They usually go down before 7:30pm. We don’t know exactly what will happen each evening or if the weather will interfere but each evening is bound to be an adventure.
