Advanced Birding Series: Welcome Back Winter Waterfowl with Alex Patia

Advanced Birding Series: Welcome back Winter Waterfowl with Alex Patia
$35/member, $50/non-member. Sunday November 16th, 7:30-10 am
Trip difficulty: Easy. Walking distance: About 1.3 miles. Trip Duration: 2-2.5 hours. Elevation gain: None. Ground condition: Groomed gravel trails. Drinking water and restrooms available at the park’s entrance. Benches are available at periodic intervals around the wetlands.

November marks the return of wintering waterfowl to Sweetwater, with possibly up to 10 species of ducks for us to observe and admire. We’ll study the biggest southwest duck identification challenge: differentiating Mexican Ducks, Mallards, and hybrids of the two. We will also work on separating all three species of teal, identifying ducks that are in flight or asleep, and using size and shape to identify ducks at a distance. While ducks will be the focus we’ll take time to watch other birds as well!

Limited to 12 participants. Sweetwater Wetlands is located at 2511 W Sweetwater Dr.
