Introduction to Sonoran Desert Birds: Sabino Canyon with Karen Howe

Introduction to Desert Birds at Sabino Canyon (Overflow Parking Lot)

Time: 2.5 hours

Trip Rating: Moderate. Walking Distance: 2.5 miles on uneven dirt trails with some steps.

Join me for an exploration of less-traveled trails at Sabino Canyon. This trip is intended for beginning birders or visitors who want to learn about the birds in the Sonoran Desert.  We’ll identify birds by shape, sound, color, and behavior, and make connections between the birds and plants.

Bring a sunhat, drinking water and wear sturdy walking shoes.

Sabino Canyon requires a National Recreation area parking fee of $8 per car or an Interagency Recreation Pass.

Meet at the Sabino Canyon Overflow Parking lot.  The overflow parking area is accessed by taking Sabino Canyon Road about ¼ mile past the main entrance.  Take a right and follow the road to the parking area at the end.
