Tucson Bird Alliance's Summer Appeal

Dear Friends,

In today’s 24-hour news cycle, the constant barrage of mostly miserable information can be daunting. It’s easy to shut down or feel helpless in the face of complex global issues like climate change, or to think “I’m just one person. This is too big a problem for me to make a difference.”

Yet, every day, Tucson Bird Alliance is taking direct, meaningful action for birds and people, in one of the most unique, biodiverse, and imperiled landscapes on the planet.

I feel incredibly lucky to work where I do, witnessing on a daily basis the dedication of our staff, board, and volunteers who, together, are making a lasting impact throughout the region. Just last year, we planted more than 6,800 saguaro cactus seedlings in an effort to boost populations lost to fire, drought, and extreme heat, while we aim to better understand what this keystone species needs to survive in a changing landscape.

Please give today to support our work!

Our invasive plants crew has played a frontline role in curbing the scourge of stinknet from overtaking native habitats, targeting stinknet hotspots and collaborating in a region-wide awareness campaign. Our urban habitat crews maintained and restored 90 green stormwater basins throughout the city of Tucson, creating understory for pollinators and birds while capturing rainwater. That’s just a fraction of the work that’s done in a year at Tucson Bird Alliance.

Together, we are making an impact for the unique birds and places we love throughout Southeast Arizona. In a world that can sometimes make us feel powerless, we have the power to do good for the habitats we all share.

As I write this, just halfway through 2025, we’ve built on those efforts, developing habitat in public spaces like Tucson City Hall and Luna y Sol Cafe in South Tucson, preparing to tag more Desert Purple Martins in our ongoing research, and wrapping up another season of fence-busting, where thousands of bird and wildlife deaths were prevented through the capping of open pipes. Next month, we’ll welcome nearly 1,000 visitors from around the globe to the Southeast Arizona Birding Festival!

When you give to Tucson Bird Alliance, your gift is put to work immediately, protecting birds, improving habitat, and engaging community to ensure a thriving future.

This year, thanks to the generosity of The Stoldt Family, Melodee Thorwegen, Leslie Cohen, and anonymous donors, we have an exciting opportunity to double every dollar raised up to $28,500! I hope you’ll join us this summer in taking action through a gift to Tucson Bird Alliance, doubling your dollars, and supporting the best team in bird conservation.

We cannot do this without you, and are deeply grateful for this community of conservation-minded bird lovers!

For the Birds!
