Festival FAQ ⋆ Tucson Bird Alliance Skip to content

How do I register?

Online. We prefer you register online. There is a registration fee of $30 per person to assist in covering the administrative costs of the festival.

Scholarships Available. Tucson Bird Alliance is committed to connecting all people to nature regardless of income. Anyone with a financial need is encouraged to apply. Scholarships are given based on availability of funds. Please fill out this form.

Support. If you are having problems registering online, please contact Diana Rosenblum at drosenblum@tucsonbirds.org or 520-629-0510 x 7002, Monday through Thursday from 9:00 am–4:00 pm.

Drop In. While online registration is the preferred method of registration, you may register for any available event at the festival registration/check-in table. Please note that most trips fill up within the first month of opening registration, but there is usually space in our workshops, social hours, and evening programs.

Waiting Lists. Once an event is full, you can request to be put on a waiting list by emailing drosenblum@tucsonbirds.org . If demand for a particular trip is high, and quality leaders are available, additional sections may be opened. Cancellations are rare. The best way to ensure that you get on a particular trip is by registering early.

Where can I stay? Where is the festival site?

All activities (unless otherwise noted) for the Southeast Arizona Birding Festival will be based out of the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel Tucson – Reid Park445 South Alvernon Way, Tucson, Arizona, 520-881-4200. “Van Trips” will depart and return from the hotel, while “Drive Yourself and Meet On-Site Trips” will meet at the birding location and you will receive detailed instructions. The Nature Expo, social hours, evening programs, and most workshops will also be onsite. Please check the description of the event that is on your schedule for any details.

When is check-in?

Festival check-in will begin on Wednesday, August 6 from 4:00 pm–6:00 pm at the hotel venue, the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel – Reid Park. Stop by the registration area to pick up your name tag and registration packet so that you’re prepared for field trips on Thursday morning. The registration area will be open through Friday so be sure to stop by as we recommend you check in  the evening before your scheduled event. If you are unable to come the day before, please arrive 30 minutes before the expected start time of your first scheduled event.

How do I get around?

The hotel has a great restaurant, and while we are close to many other amenities, you may want a rental car. If you do plan on booking a rental car we suggest Enterprise as we have been renting 15-passenger vans from them for our field trips every year of the festival. You will not be disappointed by their great service and price.

Where do I eat?

Restaurants and food options at the DoubleTree are more plentiful than in past years. The Cactus Rose Restaurant serves excellent a la carte breakfast and is open 6:30am -11:30am. The Javelina is a new restaurant on-site that serves Southwest American cuisine and is open 11am – 11pm. The Lobby Bar is open 2pm – 8pm and has a limited food menu. The Made Market is open 24 hours by the front desk and has a selection of refrigerated items, snacks, and hot breakfast items from 6am – 10am.

Nearby restaurants that serve a variety of cuisines within a short distance of the hotel, with a complimentary hotel shuttle available to locations within a 3-mile radius, include: 1925 Bar & Grill (6am-6pm), nearby Smashburger, Azian, and at El Con Mall, find In n Out,  Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen, Rubio’s and Chick-fil A, Falora Pizza, Sushi Garden, and Bisbee Breakfast Club Broadway. Stop by the Festival Registration Desk or Hotel Front Desk for ideas, and check out these links for meal and entertainment ideas:  downtowntucson.org or visittucson.org.

What if it rains?

As you are going to be in southeast Arizona during the monsoon season, it is very possible we will have periods of heavy rain during the days of the festival. All trips are rain or shine. Please dress accordingly, and be prepared for wet weather. Trips will be cancelled only under the circumstances that weather events have made conditions unsafe.

What is the cancellation policy?

If you are unable to attend an event that you are registered for, email Diana Rosenblum at drosenblum@tucsonbirds.org to cancel before July 18, 2025. Cancellations received on or before this date will be refunded less at 10% processing fee. No refunds will be issued after July 19. If it becomes necessary to cancel a paid event for which you have a reservation, we will notify you and issue a full refund. No refunds will be issued for no shows.
